St. Petersburg Governor's Symphony Orchestra at the Capella
A concert by the St. Petersburg Governor's Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Anton Lubchenko, will bring together works by two giants of Russian musical culture as part of the "Tchaikovsky: Reboot" festival.
Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 has long enjoyed worldwide acclaim. Often described as a "piano symphony," the work captivates audiences with its grandeur and its organic blend of emotional depth, melodic splendor, and tender lyricism.
Stravinsky’s Symphony in E-flat Major is a rarity on the concert stage. An early work, it reveals echoes of the stylistic influence of his teachers as well as that of Tchaikovsky, whom he greatly admired.
In his later years, Stravinsky remarked: "I have spoken Russian all my life; my phrasing is Russian. It may not be immediately apparent in my music, but it is embedded there—it lies in its hidden nature." In doing so, the composer seemed to underscore the inextricable link between his own work and Russia’s rich musical heritage.
The Artistic Director of the "Tchaikovsky: Reboot" festival is Hans-Joachim Frey.
