Gala Concert for the 200th Anniversary of Bedřich Smetana
A gala concert dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Czech pianist, composer and conductor Bedřich Smetana was held in the city of Litomyšl, where the future great musician was born and raised.
The concert featured works by the composer in various genres: the overture to the opera "The Bartered Bride", "The Triumphant Overture", the symphonic poem "Haakon Jarl". The gala concert also featured the craziest concert version of "The Comedians' Dance" with the famous circus group "Circus La Putica". The Czech Philharmonic String Quartet played a heartbreaking musical story that reflected the tragedies experienced by the composer, "From My Life".
The gala concert featured the premiere of the orchestral version of Smetana's concerto for violin and piano, orchestrated especially for this event. B. Smetana's works were performed by one of the best orchestras in Europe, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jakub Hruša, the Czech Philharmonic Quartet, as well as Ivo Kahanek and Jan Mráček.
