Discussion "Cello Schools of the World"
From March 26 to 29, 2026, the Moscow Helikon Opera Music Theatre will host the IV All-Russian Cello Academy – an educational event for professional cello performers, students, and graduates of music schools.
The academy will feature open masterclasses by renowned cellists, lectures by professionals on topics relevant to musicians, and a final concert featuring all the teachers and students who participated in the academy's masterclasses.
On March 27, a discussion was held on the topic "Cello Schools of the World."
Participants included:
Fausto Solci, cellist, cello/baroque cello teacher, and movement physiologist (Italy);
Fernando Arias, cellist, teacher at the Queen Sofia School of Music in Madrid (Spain);
Xie Guangyu, cellist, associate professor and academic director of the master's program at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and vice chairman of the Cello Professional Committee of the Shanghai Musicians' Association (China);
Ivan Skanavi, cellist, Grand Prix winner of the E. Feuermann International Cello Competition, and artist with Larsen Strings;
Gabriel Jebran Yacoub, cellist, cultural figure, instrument maker, restorer, and curator of musical instruments at the Daniel Barenboim Foundation and Spectrum Concerts in Berlin, the Barenboim-Said Foundation in Seville, the Rostropovich Foundation in Vilnius, the New Names Foundation, and the Vladimir Spivakov Foundation in Moscow.
