Grand opening of Radio Orpheus broadcasting in Omsk

On October 10, 2026, the Omsk Philharmonic will host a gala concert marking a long-awaited event: the launch of Radio Orpheus broadcasts in Omsk.

Performing on stage will be a legendary ensemble associated with the Russian State TV and Radio Centre and Radio Orpheus—the Y.V. Silantyev Academic Grand Concert Orchestra. The orchestra represents a true piece of the nation's musical history. It was founded in the spring of 1945, just as the world was beginning to recover from the war. Over the years, it has become one of Russia’s most recognizable ensembles, with a name inextricably linked to the development of Soviet popular music and radio broadcasting. The orchestra bears the name of the distinguished conductor Yuri Vasilyevich Silantyev, who led the group for nearly thirty years and established it as a benchmark of sound quality for the entire country. Today, the orchestra’s artistic director is Alexander Klevitsky. Its repertoire is remarkably diverse, ranging from classical symphonic works to jazz standards, global hits, and film scores. Great Soviet composers—such as Tikhon Khrennikov, Andrei Eshpai, Andrei Petrov, Alexandra Pakhmutova, and David Tukhmanov—entrusted the premieres of their works to this very orchestra.
