Tugan Sokhiev, Orchestre du Capitole de Toulouse - Prokofiev, Shostakovich
The concert of The National Orchestra of The Capitole de Toulouse, conducted by Tugan Sokhiev, features works by Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitry Shostakovich.
Concerto No. 2 for piano and orchestra was written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1912-1913 and was presented to the public in 1913 in the concert hall of the Pavlovsky railway station, performed by the author. During the revolutionary events in Petrograd, the composer lost the score. He believed that it was used to heat the stove. And 10 years later, in 1923, Prokofiev re-orchestrated the concerto using the surviving piano score. He also reworked the piano part. It is the second version of the work that is performed today, despite the fact that the score of the first version did not burn.
Symphony No. 10 by Dmitry Shostakovich was written, according to the composer, between July and October 1953. It was first performed on December 17, 1953 by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of conductor Yevgeny Mravinsky. However, there is an opinion that the symphony was completed back in 1951, and sketches for some materials date back to 1946.
This work remains one of the most iconic works of the composer, his confession and great revelation.
