Anton Bruckner. Symphony No. 7

Description

Anton Bruckner's 7th Symphony performed by the Lucerne Festival Orchestra under Claudio Abbado.

Symphony No. 7 is one of the composer's most famous symphonies. It was written between 1881 and 1883 and revised in 1885. The work is dedicated to Ludwig II of Bavaria. The premiere, conducted by Arthur Nikisch and the Gewandhaus Orchestra at the Leipzig Opera House on 30 December 1884, brought Bruckner his greatest success. The symphony is sometimes called the "Lyrical Symphony", although this title does not belong to the composer and is rarely used.
