Monte Carlo Jazz Festival: Billy Cobham
Every year, the Monte Carlo Jazz Festival brings together jazz lovers from all over the world. In 2023, one of the best fusion drummers on the planet, jazz-rock legend, virtuoso Billy Cobham performed at the festival with his Spectrum 50 program. Great musicians took the stage with him: Gary Husband, Rocco Zifarelli, Christian Galvez.
Billy Cobham is an American musician of Panamanian origin. During his career, he recorded about 50 of his own studio albums, and also took part in recordings of albums of other musicians more than 70 times. In 1973, Billy Cobham recorded the famous album "Spectrum", which sold more than a million copies. The album was recognized as the best jazz-rock recording and laid the foundations for the style that was later called "fusion". Cobham went down in the history of world jazz as the founder of this style.
