Concerto grandioso

Description

Two orchestras, two choirs and an organ. A large-scale Concerto grandioso project gathered 200 people at the same time on the stage of the Moscow Svetlanov Hall! It was not an easy task to attract such a large group of performers, that is why the compositions included in the program can rarely be heard in "live" sound. The most famous musical masterpieces of different eras were played against the backdrop of a unique video sequence - projections of magnificent paintings, personally selected by the author of the project, conductor Nicola Giuliani.

The grandiose "Ode to Joy" (finale of Beethoven Symphony No 9), which became the anthem of the European Community, "Hallelujah" from Handel's "Messiah", Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture - hardly any other compositions can match these masterpieces in terms of the power of impact! Especially if we take into account the fact that the Overture in this program was performed in the version by Sergei Koussevitzky and Andrew Cornell. The orchestra's power with a bass drum, bells and a mass of wind instruments was enhanced by the sound of the choir singing the theme of prayer and hymn.

Among the undisputed classic hits that were performed during Concerto grandioso was Barber's Agnus Dei, the author's arrangement of his famous orchestral Adagio, which was included in the "Top 20 Compositions of the Millennium" and recognized in the USA as a national musical bestseller (as having withstood the largest number of CD reissues).
