The opera "War and Peace" featuring soloists from the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters

Description

Sergei Prokofiev's grand musical epic, staged by the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theatre, will be presented in a unique open-air performance against the backdrop of the historic setting of Suzdal, featuring a cast of over 500 performers.

While preserving the essential plot of Prokofiev's opera, the directors have carefully and creatively crafted its design. Costumes, crafted from natural fabrics based on 19th-century designs, original mobile sets, and graphics originally conceived in the artist's handwritten sketches, were created to immerse the audience in the distant past and immerse them in the atmosphere of the terrifying events recounted in the libretto.

The production is striking in its artistic scope and technical achievements, but above all, it impresses with the grandeur and depth of Prokofiev's score and the supreme mastery of the soloists, choir, and orchestra.

As in the brilliant Russian classic novel "War and Peace," one of the production's central ideas is the presentation of patriotism as a moral duty, an act in the name of the Fatherland, and the ability, in a decisive moment for the Motherland, to rise above the personal and embrace a sense of responsibility for the fate of the nation.
