The concert was held during the Elena Obraztsova Competition of Young Vocalists to coincide with the birthday anniversary of the outstanding Russian singer Elena Vasilievna Obraztsova.
Elena Obraztsova was born on July 7, 1939 in Leningrad in the family of Vasily and Obraztsov (1905-1989) and Natalya Obraztsova (1913-19940. She became the Soviet and Russian opera singer (mezzo-soprano), actress, teacher and professor at the Moscow Conservatory. Obraztsova was a soloist at the Bolshoi Theatre (1964-2009), earned the titles of the Hero of Socialist Labor (1990), People's Artist of the USSR (1976), became the laureate of the Lenin Prize (1976) and the Glinka State Prize of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (1973).
Elena Obraztsova is one of the outstanding singers of the second half of the 20th century. She performed at all the leading opera stages in the world: the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Vienna Opera, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, the Bavarian Opera, the Berlin Opera, the Opera Garnier and the Mariinsky Theatre.
