A Conversation about Ancient Music

From March 26 to 29, 2026, the Moscow Musical Theatre "Helikon-Opera" will host the IV All-Russian Cello Academy – an educational event for professional cello performers, students, and graduates of music schools.

The academy will feature open masterclasses by renowned cellists, lectures by professionals on topics relevant to musicians, and a final concert featuring all the teachers and students who participated in the academy's masterclasses.

On March 26, a discussion about early music was held with faculty from the Faculty of Historical and Contemporary Performing Arts of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, founded at the initiative of musicians Alexei Lyubimov and Natalia Gutman.

Participating in the discussion:

Andrey Spiridonov, cellist (baroque/modern cello), professor at the Moscow State Conservatory. Tchaikovsky (Faculty of Historical and Contemporary Performance), founder and director of the "Baroque Soloists" ensemble;

Gennady Akinfin, violinist, lecturer at the Moscow State Conservatory (Faculty of Historical and Contemporary Performance);

Olga Matieva, keyboardist, assistant to Professor O. Martynova at the Moscow State Conservatory (Faculty of Historical and Contemporary Performance);

Mikhail Dubov, keyboardist, pianist, musicologist, soloist with the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, PhD in Art History, professor and dean of the Faculty of Historical and Contemporary Performance at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory.
