P.I. Tchaikovsky. The Seasons. Performed by the Zadig Trio
"The Seasons" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky are not just 12 characteristic pictures for piano, but also a kind of musical diary of the composer, capturing episodes of his life, meetings and pictures of nature dear to his heart. The emergence of the cycle "The Seasons" is directly connected with the history of the composer's relationship with the family of St. Petersburg music publishers Bernard and their magazine "Novellist", founded in 1842. The eldest of the family, Matvey Ivanovich Bernard (1794-1871), the founder of the music publishing company and the magazine "Novellist", was also a pianist and composer. His son Nikolai Matveevich (1844-1905), also a famous musician, continued the business. "Novellist" introduced the public to new works by Russian composers, amateur musicians, and foreign authors. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky collaborated with Nouvellist from 1873, having composed several romances for the magazine. The reason for writing the cycle "The Seasons" was an order from Nikolai Matveevich Bernard.
The magazine was published monthly, on the first of the month. Plays by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky opened each issue of the magazine. And the name "The Seasons" first appeared at the end of 1876, when the entire cycle was published. This title was retained in all subsequent editions.
12 plays from the cycle "The Seasons" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky are performed by the world-famous trio "Zadig" consisting of Boris Borgolotto, Marc Girard Garcia and Jan Barber.
The musicians consider this cycle one of the main works of the Russian composer and perform it on stages all over the world. Epigraphs of Russian poets to the plays are read by the actor Stefan Varupenn.
