Johann Sebastian Bach Mass in B minor
The International Johann Sebastian Bach Music Festival is held annually in Leipzig. The festival was first held in 1904. To this day, many famous performers gather at the festival in June, each of whom presents their own interpretation of the great German composer's work to the public.
The Gewandhaus Orchestra and Choir under the direction of Herbert Blomstedt presented Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B minor, one of the greatest works of church music, at the Leipzig festival in 2005. The mass was performed in the Thomaskirche, a church closely associated with the name of the German composer. He worked there as a bandmaster. His remains are also buried there.
In this concert, Herbert Blomstedt performs for the last time with the Gewandhaus Orchestra as its musical director after seven successful years of work. Herbert Blomstedt's reading of the great composer's Mass was one of the highlights of the Leipzig Festival.
