III St. Petersburg Music Festival named after S.K.Gorkovenko

Description

III St. Petersburg Music Festival named after S.K. Gorkovenko is taking place this year from November 28 to December 22 and opened with a concert dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Alfred Schnittke, one of the most famous Soviet avant-garde artists of the 60s-90s.

His works were often ideologically dissonant with the official artistic context of the Soviet era. The intellectualism of Schnittke's work is expressed in his words: "Music is a thought about the world, an attitude towards the world, expressed in sound form." The philosophical depth of the composer's thinking manifested itself in all genres - in concerts, quartets, operas, ballets, choral music, as well as in film music. The first part of the concert featured two instrumental works: the Concerto for Piano and String Orchestra (1979), dedicated to pianist Vladimir Krainev, who performed it first, and the "Concerto for Three" for violin, viola, cello and chamber orchestra (1994), written for three star performers of the 20th century: Mstislav Rostropovich, Yuri Bashmet, Gidon Kremer.

The second part featured fragments from Alfred Schnittke's most famous films.
