G. Mahler. Symphony No. 5

Description

The Orchestra de la Suisse Romande, conducted by Jonathan Nott, performs Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony.

The symphony was written between 1901 and 1902. This period was one of the most difficult in the composer's life. He experienced the loss of his little daughter and faced problems in his conducting career. This symphony is a mirror of the emotions Mahler experienced at this time. The work consists of five parts, each with its own character and musical language. It reflects the essence of the human condition, its emotions, touching on the themes of love, loss and the search for meaning.

Symphony No. 5 was first performed in Cologne in 1904, but was not met with enthusiasm by the public. The author himself was not entirely satisfied with his work and made changes to it up until 1911. Subsequently, it became one of the most performed works of Gustav Mahler.
