Cultural Capital 2026
The official ceremony of summing up the results of the federal competition among Russian cities "Cultural Capital of the Year".
The winner was chosen from 8 finalists - the agglomeration of the cities of Zaraysk and Kolomna, Vladivostok, Vladimir, Vologda, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Omsk or Tomsk. All of them received the maximum number of points from the jury experts based on the results of two stages of the competition, held from July 1.
At the official ceremony, the finalists presented spectacular presentations of their strengths, as well as draft development programs for 2026. Based on these, taking into account the scores already given for the previous stages of the competition, the Organizing Committee selected the city that will receive the honorary title of "Cultural Capital of the Year 2026".
A year earlier, the competition for the first time received a federal scale: the winners in 2023 were two cities at once - Nizhny Novgorod and Grozny, they received the status of cultural capitals of 2024 and 2025, respectively.
The federal competition "Cultural Capital of the Year" is organized by the Fund for the Development of Cultural, Scientific, Educational and Socio-Economic Spheres of Territories "Cultural Capital" with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives and the assistance of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, the Government of Moscow.
