Denis Matsuev, Dmitry Yurovsky and virtuosos

Description

The sixth musical evening of the Denis Matsuev Summer Festival is a new meeting with brilliant soloists and masterpieces of world classics. In one of the oldest monasteries in Russia – the Spaso-Evfimiev Monastery, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site – fragments from great operas will be performed.

Arias from the operas of Glinka, Tchaikovsky and Rossini, accompanied by the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra, will be performed by the soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre Mikhail Petrenko – the owner of a deep velvety bass. The singer began his international career at the Berlin State Opera, then conquered the stages of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, La Scala in Milan, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London and others.

Mezzo-soprano Zinaida Tsarenko – also a soloist of the Mariinsky Opera Company – will continue the vocal program with arias from the operas of Saint-Saëns, Mussorgsky and Rimsky-Korsakov. The singer gained wide fame after her triumphant victory in the XVII International Tchaikovsky Competition (2023), where she received the Grand Prix in addition to the First Prize and the Gold Medal.

The opera line in the program will continue with a brilliant fantasy on themes from Gounod's Faust by Henryk Wieniawski, the author of many of the most virtuoso works for violinists. Honored Artist of Russia Pavel Milyukov, bronze medalist of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, laureate of international competitions in Germany, Hungary, Russia, Kazakhstan, France, Armenia and South Korea, will perform as a soloist with the RNMSO.

The extraordinary cellist Borislav Strulev, known for his temperamental virtuoso playing and daring experiments at the intersection of genres and styles, will also take part in the concert. He collaborates with musicians of various genres and actors, works in the field of film music, plays the electric cello and constantly expands his repertoire with new arrangements. Borislav Strulev and the RNMSO will perform works by Dmitry Shostakovich and Isaac Schwartz.

The artistic director of the Summer Festival, Denis Matsuev, will perform Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto with the VGSO - the composer's most monumental opus in its genre, nicknamed "Emperor" for the majestic nature of the music, the scale of the composition, and the luxury of the score. Maestro Dmitry Jurowski, the youngest representative of the famous musical dynasty, musical director and chief conductor of the Krasnoyarsk Opera and Ballet Theater named after Dmitry Hvorostovsky, will conduct.
