Closing Concert. Symphonic Jazz. Denis Matsuev, Ivan Nikiforchin and Virtuosos

Description

The first Summer Festival of Denis Matsuev in Suzdal ends with a symphonic jazz program within the walls of the ancient architectural ensemble, UNESCO monument, the Spaso-Euphimiev Monastery. Denis Matsuev will share the stage with his friends and permanent creative partners: jazzmen Andrei Ivanov (double bass) and Alexander Zinger (drums), cellist Borislav Strulev and domra player Ekaterina Mochalova, as well as the Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra.

For music lovers who are well aware of Denis Matsuev's passion for jazz, he has prepared a surprise: jazz arrangements and improvisations, which the musician has often delighted listeners with as part of a trio (with Andrei Ivanov and Alexander Zinger), will be performed in an orchestral version. Along with arrangements of classics and improvisations on themes by classics – Khachaturian, Grieg, Rimsky-Korsakov, Saint-Saëns and others – original compositions by the concert participants will also be performed, including Andrei Ivanov’s Fiesta and Denis Matsuev’s Ballad, written in his youth. Leonard Bernstein, the author of the great musical West Side Story, and Chick Corea, an American pianist and composer, a jazz legend who won 25 Grammys, can also be counted among the classics of the 20th century.

The charismatic young maestro Ivan Nikiforchin will be at the conductor’s stand. By the age of 30, he had organized his own group (the Academy of Russian Music Chapel) and headed one of the leading capital orchestras – the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra. Nikiforchin is a laureate of the 1st International Competition of Pianists, Composers and Conductors named after S. V. Rachmaninov, winner of the Pure Sound, Boris Tchaikovsky, BraVo, the Russian Presidential Prize for Young Cultural Figures and the Moscow Art Theatre Prize in the Opera nomination and other awards.

Cellist Borislav Strulev, whose international career began with a triumphant debut at New York's Carnegie Hall in 1999, was one of the first in the world to play jazz on the cello. The musician often experiments, mixing musical styles (crossover), collaborates with musicians of different genres and actors, works in the field of film music, acts as a producer and musical director of various projects.

Andrey Ivanov is a jazz double bass player, composer, and music producer. By combining jazz and academic playing methods, he created new principles of playing the double bass. The author of various creative and production projects of the Ivanov Brothers International Production Center.

Alexander Zinger is rightfully considered one of the best jazz drummers in Russia. He has collaborated with famous musicians, including Deborah Brown, George Garzon, John Grant, Evgeny Grishkovets, Frank Lacy, Anatoly Kroll, Igor Bril, Gregory Porter, Roy Hargrove, Vadim Eilenkrig and many others.

Ekaterina Mochalova is a famous domra player, soloist and concertmaster of the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Russia named after N. P. Osipov.
