Lucerne Festival Orchestra. G. Mahler. Symphony No. 7
Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 7 performed by the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, conducted by Claudio Abbado.
In the summer of 1904, almost immediately after completing the Sixth Symphony, Mahler began to compose a new symphonic work. However, with the opening of the season of the Vienna Court Opera, where the composer was the director, there was practically no time for composition. Work on the symphony was interrupted and resumed only in the summer of 1905. The figurative structure of the work is associated with the development of the same idea as in the previous symphonies - the search for answers to eternal questions about the meaning of life.
After the failure of the Fifth Symphony, Mahler was in no hurry to publish his works. The premiere of the Seventh Symphony took place only on September 19, 1908, in Prague, in a concert held as part of the jubilee celebrations on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph. The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra was conducted by the composer himself at this premiere.
