The 3rd Interregional Open Competition for Performers on String Instruments named after V. Ya. Shpet will be held in Omsk from February 7 to 15, 2026, as part of the "Omsk – Cultural Capital of Russia – 2026" program.

In anticipation of this event, the Orpheus Media Platform presents interviews with the Competition jury members and past laureates.

Our guest in the studio is Vasily Valerievich Stepanov, a member of the Competition jury in the cello section and a teacher at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music.

Vilgelm Yakovlevich Shpet is a Siberian educator who has trained several generations of professional musicians working throughout Russia and abroad.

The competition is organized to enhance the performance skills of students in additional pre-professional and vocational educational institutions and to identify and support talented and gifted young musicians. The competition is open to performers on stringed instruments, violin, viola, and cello, aged 7 to 23. Applications are accepted on the competition's official website: https://shpet-konkurs.ru/
