Verbier 2023. G.Berlioz "Fantastic Symphony"

The Verbier International Music Festival is an internationally renowned event in the world of classical music, which takes place annually in the mountain resort of Verbier (Switzerland). It was founded in 1994 by Martin T. Son Engstrom and has since become one of the key venues for meeting global stars and supporting young talents. In 2023, the festival celebrated its 30th anniversary. The anniversary year program was more intense than ever.

Thirty years ago, legendary maestro Zubin Mehta opened the first festival. In the jubilee year, he conducted the Festival Orchestra to perform Hector Berlioz's "Fantastic Symphony" at the closing of the festival. The work has a subtitle: "An episode from the life of an artist, a fantastic symphony in five movements." Berlioz himself wrote a detailed program — a sequential presentation of the plot, where the music tells the story of his unrequited love.
