The World of Saxophone

The concert "World of Saxophone" took place within the framework of the 1st Open Moscow Festival of Wind Music named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov.

Outstanding artists, students of the founder of the Russian Saxophone school, People's Artist Margarita Shaposhnikova, presented this instrument in all its rich sound. The audience got acquainted with the whole variety of instruments of Adolphe Sax, the youngest instrument, which since the middle of the 19th century has firmly established itself in the group of woodwind instruments of the symphony orchestra. Soloists, small and large ensembles performed at the concert, with the participation of a wide variety of saxophones from soprano to bass.

The timbre of the saxophone is consonant with both string and folk instruments, and of course the human voice. Just immerse yourself in the "World of the Saxophone" - this wind instrument caresses the ear like no other musical instrument. The concert featured famous saxophonists, laureates of international competitions Anton Skiba, Yulia Bikhovets, Wang Ruo Chen, the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music Saxophone Quartet under the direction of Associate Professor of the Woodwind Instruments Department Leonid Drutin and the Large Saxophone Ensemble of the Ippolitov-Ivanov State Musical Pedagogical Institute under the direction of Honored Artist of Russia, soloist of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra, Professor Alexei Volkov. The works of Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, Khachaturian, Denisov and Podgaits were performed.

The 1st Open Moscow Festival of Brass Music named after N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov is held with the support of the Association of Brass Bands and Performers on Brass and Percussion Instruments "Valery Khalilov Brass Society" and the Orpheus State Musical Center.
